Abrasion-resistant (AR) steel plate is a high-carbon alloy steel plate, which signifies that AR is formable and weather-resistant due to the added alloys, and harder due to the addition of carbon.

Carbon is added during the formation of steel plate which considerably increases hardness and toughness, but reduces strength. Hence, the AR plate is employed in conditions where wear and tear and abrasions are the main causes of failure. The AR plate is not perfect for structural construction applications, like support beams in buildings or bridges.
These plates are used in construction and mining equipment manufacturing, conveyers, earthmoving and material handling equipments.
Common applications of the AR plate include dump liners, grates, buckets, construction attachments, conveyors, etc;

Sheffield 14% Manganese can be welded with standard manganese electrodes. Please use only certified personnel who are familiar with working with this type of material. Drilling is not recommended for this product. Manganese is grey-white metal with a pinkish tinge and a very brittle but hard metallic element. Manganese is a reactive element that easily combines with water and air. It is a steel with a relatively large component about 10-14% of manganese; highly resistant to wear and shock. The original austenitic manganese steel, containing about 1.2%C and 12% Mn.
Manganese Advantages
Work Hardening refers to the fact that the steel becomes harder and harder the more it is impacted or compressed.
The "Hadfield" grade has an original hardness of approximately 220 BRINELL. With the continued impact and /or compression it will surface harden to over 550 BRINELL.
It should be noted that only the outer skin surface hardens. The underlayer remains highly ductile and tough. As the surface wears, it continually renews itself becoming harder and harder.
Manganese steel is an austenitic steel which means it is non-magnetic. This property makes it useful in many applications such as bottom plates for lifting magnets - separator drum shells for magnetic materials - wear shoes on electric brakes etc.

DSQ plate satisfies quality demands that analogue plate systems have been unable to meet. The technology of designed image transfer enables results in corrugated post-printing that are comparable to those in pre-printing, provided that the substrate is of a sufficiently good grade.
The surface unevenness of the printing material is optimally compensated by the ideal shore hardness and the excellent restoring behavior of the DSQ plate. Depending on the desired relief depth of the plate, it is possible to produce plate with a screen of 120 lpi and a tonal range of 2-95%.
DSQ plate material features a very strong black layer which is produced under an exclusive patent. This patented technology enables easy handling of unexposed plate material. Because of the dynamics of the black mask layer, it is almost impossible to damage or smudge prior to the laser setting step. DSQ plate is suitable for use with flexo inks based on alcohole or water. It is permissible to use solvent mixtures containing a limited amount of active solvents (ethyl acetate content-preferably under 10%).

Processing:
Hot forming:
2507 should be hot worked between 1875 DegreeF and 2250 DegreeF. This should be followed by a solution anneal at 1925 DegreeF minimum and a rapid air or water quench.
Cold Forming:
Most of the common stainless steel forming methods can be used for cold working 2507. The alloy has a higher yield strength and lower ductility than the austenitic steels so fabricators may find that higher
Heat Treatment:
2507 should be solution annealed and quenched after either hot or cold forming. Solution annealing should be done at a minimum of 1925 DegreeF. Annealing should be followed immediately by a rapid air or water quench. To obtain maximum corrosion resistance, heat treated products should be pickled and rinsed.
Welding:
2507 possesses good weldability and can be joined to itself or other materials by shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), plasma arc welding (PAW), flux cored wire (FCW), or submerged arc welding (SAW). 2507/P100 filler metal is suggested when welding 2507 because it will produce the appropriate duplex weld structure.
Preheating of 2507 is not necessary except to prevent condensation on cold metal. The interpass weld temperature should not exceed 300 DegreeF or the weld integrity can be adversely affected. The root should be shielded with argon or 90% N2/10% H2 purging gas for maximum corrosion resistance. The latter provides better corrosion resistance.
